How it all connects

The three products share a backend and talk to each other in real time. No hardware, no cables, no manual data transfer.

Before the race

RC Web App → Sailor App The race officer sets up events, series, and races in the web dashboard. Sailors see their upcoming races in the app automatically.
Online entries → Race Officer App Sailors enter online via a link or QR code. Their names, sail numbers, and handicaps appear in the Race Officer App’s competitor grid — ready for race day.

On the water

Start line → every sailor The race officer captures the PIN and RC GPS coordinates on the committee boat. The Sailor App picks up the start line automatically — no manual entry needed on the boat.
GPS positions → live map Every sailor’s GPS position broadcasts to a live map. Spectators, coaches, and the race committee follow the fleet in real time from shore or anywhere in the world.
GPS positions → finish grid The Race Officer App sees sailors heading to the finish on a map and re-orders the competitor grid so the nearest boats are at the top — making it faster to tap the right boat at the right moment.
Notices → phones & watches Race postponements, course changes, safety notices, and schedule amendments are sent from the Race Officer App as push notifications — arriving on every sailor’s iPhone and Apple Watch instantly.

After the race

Finish → score → publish → notify The race officer taps finishes on the committee boat, presses Score, then Publish. Results calculate automatically (RRS Appendix A), sync to the website, and push notifications land on every sailor’s phone — before the fleet reaches the dock.
GPS tracks → race replay GPS tracks upload automatically after racing. Sailors can replay every start, tack, and mark rounding on an animated satellite map in the bar after racing.
Flying Start TV Put the race on the big screen. Club members can watch the fleet on a live map displayed on a TV in the clubhouse — auto-scrolling leaderboard, wind data, and real-time positions.
Start cards → social The Sailor App rates every start out of 100 and generates a branded shareable card with your GPS track. Every shared card is a Flying Start advert.

The market gap Flying Start fills

Today, a typical sailing club uses Sailwave for scoring (Windows desktop), pays eStela or Kwindoo for live tracking (£60-685/month), and racers use a basic timer app or iRegatta with no connection to any of it. Three separate systems. Three separate costs. No integration.

Flying Start replaces all three with one connected ecosystem — and the race committee tools are completely free.

Where others still win

We're honest about what we don't do yet.

Offshore Satellite Tracking

TracTrac and YachtBot use satellite-connected hardware trackers that work hundreds of miles offshore with no mobile signal. Flying Start's phone-based tracking needs cellular coverage. For bluewater events, dedicated hardware is still necessary.

Full Club Management

ClubSpot handles membership, billing, marina berths, dining POS, reservations, and accounting alongside regattas. Flying Start focuses purely on racing. If you need a full club management suite, ClubSpot covers more ground.

Online Payments

Regatta Toolbox and ClubSpot process entry fee payments directly. Flying Start's entry forms collect competitor details but don't yet process payments. For events that charge entry fees online, you'll still need a separate payment solution.
